Our history has been deeply influenced by religion. Numerous churches and chapels are well worth visiting :

EGLISE SAINT-GAL

This Romanesque style church of which only remains a tower (XI-XII century) has a single nave with a dome and a typical open arch bell tower. Can be opened upon request – keys at the Planchon’s restaurant.
VIEILLESPESSE

GOURDIEGES

EGLISE DE GOURDIEGES

Gothic church with typical arch bell tower. The choir is the only relic of the castle chapel of Gourdièges castle. The cross in front of the church is dating from 15th century.

This Romanesque church was built in honour of Saint Mary, evangiliser of the“Haute Auvergne”and to ensure the safe keeping of his relics. The church is open to the public during guided visits (in French).

The XII century Romanesque chapel was formerly part of a castle which has since disappeared. Panoramic views over the city of Massiac and the Alagnon Valley. Open all year round.
